SALTO XS4 ONE
The Salto XS4 One is an electronic smart escutcheon lock manufactured by Salto Access Control, designed for commercial and institutional access control. It replaces standard door hardware to deliver battery-powered, wire-free security controlled by RFID credentials or mobile devices.

Because the battery-operated architecture retrofits directly onto existing standard door preparations, installers avoid complex cabling or hardwiring entirely. Additionally, the system supports versatile credential options, including MIFARE and DESFire RFID cards, key fobs, and digital keys via Bluetooth LE and NFC for mobile smartphone unlocking. By leveraging Salto Virtual Network (SVN) Data-on-Card technology, user credentials actively store and transmit access rights and audit trail data between standalone locks and the central system without requiring wiring at every door. Furthermore, built-in BLUEnet wireless networking enables real-time over-the-air status updates, continuous lock monitoring, and immediate access modifications. HOW DOES IT WORK?
Initially, the Salto XS4 One functions by replacing physical key mechanisms with a battery-powered clutch system. As a result, the device communicates seamlessly and wirelessly with both user credentials and management software.
Physical Operation (Clutch Mechanism)
Locked State
The outer handle spins freely (“clutched out”) without engaging the latch inside the door mortise.
Authentication
When a user presents a valid card or smartphone, the internal circuit board verifies the encrypted token.
Unlocked State
The electronic clutch engages the lever spindle for 3 to 5 seconds, allowing the user to turn the handle and retract the latch. The inside lever remains permanently connected for immediate emergency egress.
Data Exchange Architecture
The lock connects to management software through one of three operational modes:
Salto Virtual Network (SVN Data-on-Card):
- Users present RFID credentials at an Online Point (e.g., a main entrance wall reader wired to the network).
- The wall reader writes updated access permissions, schedule changes, and blacklisted card data directly onto the user’s card chip.
- When the user taps their card at an Offline Point (standalone XS4 One lock), the lock reads the card permissions, unlocks, and writes its internal audit trail and battery status back onto the card chip.
- The next time the user taps an online reader, that data uploads back to the central server automatically.
BLUEnet Wireless (Real-Time Online):
- The lock connects via encrypted 2.4 GHz radio to nearby Salto Gateways.
- Access rights, emergency lockdowns, live door status, and audit logs update instantaneously over the air without requiring card updates.
Mobile Access (JustIN Mobile):
- The lock uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Near Field Communication (NFC) to communicate directly with smartphones running the Salto app or digital wallet keys.
