MILLENNIUM TELLUS
Millennium Tellus is a pre-engineered electronic access system designed for small to medium-sized facilities. It is manufactured by Millennium Group Inc. (MGI).
The system is designed to be a “plug-and-play” solution that provides enterprise-level security features without the complexity or high costs usually associated with large-scale industrial security setups.
KEY FEATURES OF MILLENNIUM TELLUS
CAPACITY
It is specifically designed to manage systems ranging from 1 to 32 doors.
PRE-CONFIGURED SOFTWARE
The system comes with Millennium’s flagship Ultra access software pre-installed on an internal appliance. This eliminates the need for customers to provide their own servers or perform complex software installations.
HARDWARE KITS
It is typically sold in kits (1, 2, or 4-door versions) that include the controller, power supply, and enclosure.
SCALABILITY
While optimized for up to 32 doors, it offers an upgrade path to the full Millennium Access Control Ultra enterprise system if a facility expands beyond that size.
CONNECTIVITY
It supports both IP (Ethernet) and RS-485 connections, allowing for flexible installation depending on the building’s existing wiring.
WHAT IS MILLENNIUM TELLUS FOR?
Millennium Tellus simplifies and speeds up high-end security installations for small buildings. Unlike most commercial systems that require separate servers and complex software setup, Tellus arrives as a “pre-engineered” solution. We pre-install the software and pre-wire the hardware in a single box, eliminating the need for specialized IT staff.
Its Primary Purposes
Quick Deployment
It powers projects that must go live immediately. By pre-loading the software onto the internal appliance, Millennium removes the traditional “server setup” phase from your timeline.
Reducing Labor Costs
Millennium Access Control claims it can reduce on-site labor expenses by up to 25% because the hardware is already mounted in the enclosure and the power supply is pre-wired.
Affordable Enterprise Security
It provides “Enterprise-Class” features (like detailed audit logs, mobile management, and advanced encryption) at a price point that smaller businesses can afford.
Managing up to 32 Doors
Millennium Tellus serves sites that prioritize quality over quantity. It delivers a robust, professional security system for businesses that don’t require thousands of readers but refuse to compromise on protection.
HOW IS MILLENNIUM TELLUS INSTALLED?
Installation of the Millennium Tellus is designed to be significantly faster than traditional access systems because the most complex parts—software installation and internal wiring—are completed at the factory.
01. Physical Hardware Setup
Since Tellus is a “pre-engineered” kit, the internal components are already mounted in a protective enclosure.
- Mount the Enclosure: Secure the Tellus cabinet to a wall, typically in an IT closet or utility room near the doors being controlled.
- Power Connection: Connect the pre-wired power supply to a standard 110/120V AC power source.
- Network Connection: Plug an Ethernet (RJ-45) cable from your network switch into the Tellus appliance’s network port.
02. Wiring The Doors
You will need to run standard security wiring from the Tellus cabinet to each door location:
- Card Readers: Wire the proximity readers to the terminal blocks on the NETDCD or EDCD boards inside the cabinet.
- Locks: Connect your electric strikes or magnetic locks to the relay outputs.
- Door Contacts/REX: Wire any door position switches or Request-to-Exit (REX) sensors to the corresponding inputs.
03. Network Configuration & Software
Because the Millennium Ultra software is pre-installed on the internal appliance, you don’t need to set up a separate server.
- Assign an IP Address: Use the Tellus Configuration Utility (downloadable from Millennium) on a laptop connected to the same network to find the appliance and assign it a static IP address.
- Access the Interface: Open a web browser on your computer and type in the appliance’s IP address. This opens the Millennium Ultra management interface.
- Client Installation: You can also install the “Ultra Lite” client software on your PC, which points to the Tellus appliance as the host.
- Initial Programming: Log in with the default credentials (usually
admin/admin) to begin adding your users, access levels, and time schedules.
WHAT IS NECESSARY TO DO IF MILLENNIUM TELLUS PRESENTS AN ISSUE?
If a Millennium Tellus system presents an issue, you can resolve most problems by following a structured troubleshooting process targeting its hardware, pre-installed software, and network connections.
Basic System Checks
- Electric Power: Verify the unit has a steady power source. Check for blown fuses, tripped breakers, or disconnected wiring within the cabinet. If the system shuts down immediately during an outage, the backup battery likely needs replacement (typically every 3–5 years).
- Hardware Inspection: Visually inspect card readers, locks, and controllers for physical damage, wear, or environmental corrosion.
- System Restart: Sometimes a simple power cycle (turning the system off and on) can resolve minor glitches.
Software & Database Troubleshooting
Since Tellus uses the Millennium Ultra software pre-loaded on its internal appliance, common software issues may include:
- Service Check: If you cannot log in, ensure that critical Windows services like SQL Full-text filter Daemon Launcher (Ultra), Server (Ultra), and Server Agent (Ultra) are running on the system.
- Database Recovery: If a service failure or database damage occurs (e.g., from a forced shutdown), you may need to restore a previously performed backup of the Millennium Ultra login database.
- Updates: Ensure your software and firmware are up to date to prevent issues with scheduling or data logging.
Communication & Connectivity
- Network Check: Use the Millennium Configuration Utility to verify the appliance’s IP address. You can use a
pingcommand to check if the network connection between your workstation and the Tellus appliance is active. - Cabling: Inspect the wiring between the readers and the main panel for loose or frayed connections.
- Firewall: Ensure that any local firewalls are not blocking the communication between the Tellus appliance and your management PC.
Technical Support Resources
If internal troubleshooting does not resolve the issue, Millennium Group Inc. (MGI) provides several support channels:
- Training: Millennium offers free online maintenance training specifically for Tellus to help authorized dealers and users manage the system.
- Ticketing System: Use their online portal to submit a support request for technical or billing issues.
