Basically a keypad is a set of buttons complete with all alphanumerals and a couple o symbols. Currently, the keypad access control look has not evolved since its invention in the 1960s but its functionality has expanded widely.

Keypads play a major role in access control applications but not all keypads are made the same due to some offer different features and technologies than others.

MEMBRANE KEYPADS

Membrane keypads are often used in household appliances as well commercial applications, these membrane keypads basically consists of a top layer, some keys printed on the front, space layer, and a back layer features conductive stripes. Therefore, when the user press down the key the access control system will register the keypress. 

DOME-SWITCH KEYPADS

Dome-switch  keypads ae used widely for commercial applications and this type of keypad is the combination of a flat-panel membrane and mechanical-switch keypad. These keypads are highly recomended and reliable for commercial and work related appliccations because thse domes create a tactile feedback when pressed.

SCISSOR-SWITCH KEYPAD

Scissor-switch keypads can be found with different features but most contain three layers. The scissor-switch lives up to its name because it is designed like scissors that contain two separate plastic pieces that lock together and also a rubber dome that makes it an improved version of it. 

CAPACITIVE KEYPAD

Capacitive keypads are not the most usual when it comes to access control applications but  they still a viable choice. They are frequently designed with foam element keys that are finished with aluminium.
