RECORD SS8200 LOW-ENERGY SWING DOOR OPERATOR

RECORD SS8200

The Record SS8200 is a heavy-duty, low-energy door operator designed for a wide range of interior and exterior applications. It is surface-mounted solution capable of automating single door access control, pairs, or dual egress configurations.

KEY BENEFITS

Easy to Setup

Features a “One Button Set-up” and a SimpleLynk communications display for onsite programming.

Reliability

Includes an Electric Latch Assist to ensure doors close properly even in heavy stack (wind/pressure) conditions.

Quiet Operation

Engineered for minimal noise during use.

Maintenance

On-board diagnostics display the current status of the operator for easy servicing.

Safety Standards

Complies with ANSI/BHMA A156.19, UL325, UL228, and UL10C (fire-rated).

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Record SS8200 operates as a heavy-duty, low energy automatic door operator system that manages the opening and closing cycle through a combination of mechanical power and software-based intelligence.

MECHANICAL AND POWER OPERATION

Motor Power

The unit is powered by a 1/4 hp motor

Energy Output

The system provides 24V DC @ .5 amp to power auxiliary hardware like electric strikes or magnetic locks.

Electrical Input

It requires a 120 VAC @ 15 amps 60Hz power connection to operate.

Manual Force

When not being operated automatically, the door can be moved manually with an adjustable force of 5 to 15 lbs.

SOFTWARE AND CONTROL LOGIC

SimpleLynk Communications

This display allows technicians to program and set up the operator onsite.

On-Board Diagnostics

The software constantly monitors the unit, displaying the current status and providing diagnostics for easy servicing.

One-Button Set-Up

The system includes a simplified initialization process to calibrate the door’s movment.

Software-Based Control

The opening and closing speeds, as well as hold-open times, are managed via integrated software rather than manual valves.

MOTION AND ARM DYNAMICS

Opening Angles

The door’s range of motion depends on the arm type used:

  • Track Arm: Opens up to 90 degrees.
  • Standard Arm: Opens up to 130 degrees.

Electric Latch Assist

This feature ensures the door successfully latches during the closing cycle, even in environments with heavy air pressure or “stack conditions”.

Reveal Handling

The system can accommodate different door frame depths (reveals). For “Push” applications, a standard arm handles up to a 12” reveal, while a track arm handles up to 3”.

INTEGRATION AND SENSING

Hardware Interface

The operator includes all necessary components to interface with external triggers such as buttons and access systems.

Versatility

The “non-handed” design allows the same internal unit to be configured for either left-hand or right-hand doors and push or pull directions.

ADVANTAGES

The Record SS8200 offers several mechanical and operational benefits that streamline both installation and long-term use. By utilizing a “One Button Set-Up” alongside the SimpleLynk communications display, the system allows technicians to program and diagnose the unit quickly on-site. Its non-handed design and ability to operate in both push and pull configurations provide exceptional field versatility, while the electric latch assist ensures the door closes securely even under heavy wind or stack pressure. Furthermore, the operator supports heavy-duty applications up to 400 lbs and functions reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°F to +140°F. Because the unit includes all necessary components to interface with access systems and electric strikes, it simplifies the integration of specialized security hardware. Finally, full compliance with ANSI/BHMA A156.19 and UL325 standards guarantees that the system meets rigorous safety and fire-rating requirements.

DISADVANTAGES

While the Record SS8200 provides robust performance, several limitations may affect specific installation requirements. For Instance, the standard track arm restricts the door’s opening angle to 90 degrees, which might limit accessibility in certain layouts. Additionally, although the unit offers field-reversibility, installers must still navigate specific part numbers tied to fixed configurations and handing options. The system also imposes strict reveal limitations, as pull applications cannot exceed a 6” depth regardless of the arm type selected. Furthermore, the onboard power supply for auxiliary security hardware, such as magnetic locks or electric strikes, caps at 24V DC @ .5amp, potentially requiring external power for high-draw peripherals. Finally, the fixed header dimensions of 5 1/2” x 4 1/2” necessitate adequate mounting space, which may not be available in every architectural environment.

WHY INSTALL A RECORD SS8200 WITH DICSAN TECHNOLOGY?

Partnering with Dicsan Technology to install a Record SS8200 ensures a professional integration that maximizes the operator’s advanced security and accessibility features. By leveraging the team’s expertise in security systems, clients receive a precisely calibrated setup where technicians utilize the SimpleLynk display and one-button configuration to match the unit’s software logic to the specific door environment. This professional approach guarantees that the electric latch assits functions correctly to overcome heavy air pressure, while also ensuring the system integrates seamlessly with existing access system hardware like electric strikes and maglocks. Furthermore, a professional installation maintains strict adherence to ADA and ANSI/BHMA A156.19 standards, providing a safe and compliant entry solution for high-traffic or fire-rated applications. Ultimately, choosing an experienced integrator for this heavy-duty system ensures long-term reliability and efficient future servicing through the proper utilization of on-board diagnostics.
