Adjusting the time setting on a DVR-NVR for Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the United States

Daylight saving time (DST) in the United States begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. During this period, clocks advance for one hour, which means that time settings on electronic devices, including NVR or DVR, need some adittional configuration to works fine.

Steps to adjust the time settings on a DVR/NVR for DST (Daylight Saving Time):

1- ACCESS THE SETUP MENU:

  • The process for accessing the setup menu may vary depending on the make and model of the NVR or DVR. Refer to the user manual for specific instructions.
  • Generally, the access to setup always through a front panel or a web NVR camera systems interface.

2- LOCATE THE TIME SETTING:

• Once in the setup menu, look for the “Date and Time” section.
• The location of this section may vary depending on the Nvr for security cameras or DVR model.

As your can see, the time sincronization is ok, but it´s not the US Daylight Saving Time, because takes an additional hour.

The configuration of  DST option needs a adittional adjustment to works fine.

3. ADJUST THE DST SETTINGS:

  • Look for the “DST” or “Daylight Saving Time” option.
  • Activate the DST option.
  • On some security NVR or DVR models, it may be necessary to select the correct time zone.

What is DST Bias?

NVR camera system setup DST Bias is the difference in minutes between standard time and daylight-saving time for a specific time zone. it shows as a positive or negative integer value.
  • Positive value: Indicates how many minutes the clocks works during daylight saving time. In the United States, the DST Bias is usually +60 minutes.
  • Negative value: Indicates how many minutes the clocks set back during daylight saving time. This works in time zones where clocks set back during daylight saving time.

4. Save changes:

  • Save the changes made to the configuration.
  • The NVR or DVR will update to the correct time for DST. 
  • Check again and verify that configuration set to the correct time.
