LED GATE ARM
An LED gate arm is a barrier arm equipped with built-in LED lights that enhance visibility and safety. These lights, typically red or green, are integrated along the length of the barrier arm gate and are used in parking lots, gated communities, toll booths, and access devices points.
The LEDs illuminate when the gate arm is in operation—red usually indicates the gate is closed or lowering, while green signals that it is open or rising, providing a clear visual warning to drivers and pedestrians.
Compared to traditional gate arms, LED gate arms offer better visibility in low-light or harsh weather conditions, reduce the risk of accidents, and improve the overall appearance of the access control system.
TYPES OF LED GATE ARM
01.
FULL-LENGHT
The entire length of the arm is illuminated with LED strips. Also, provides maximum visibility during day and night, and is commonly used in parking lots, airports, and toll plazas.
02.
HALF-LENGHT
Only a portion of the arm (usually near the tip) contains LED lights. Additionally, ideal for medium-traffic areas where full illumination isn’t required.
03.
DUAL-COLOR
Features two LED colors—typically red and green—to indicate gate status. Basically, red for “closed” or “do not enter,” and green for “open” or “proceed.” Also, common in access devices with automatic operation.
04.
TOP AND BOTTOM
LED lights are placed on both the top and bottom edges of the arm for 360° visibility. Certainly, ideal for high-visibility requirements, such as industrial or high-security barrier arm gate.
05.
REFLECTIVE
Combines LED lighting with reflective tape, providing visibility even when LEDs are off. Additionally, often used in energy-saving setups or areas with good ambient lighting.
06.
ARTICULATED
Designed for low-ceiling parking garages, featuring a folding joint and LED illumination. Basially, ensures visibility while fitting in compact spaces.
HOW DOES A LED GATE ARM WORK?
An LED gate arm works by combining a barrier arm mechanism with integrated LED lighting to control and signal vehicle access safely and efficiently. Here’s how it works step-by-step:
ACCESS AUTHORIZATION
The system receives an open signal from an access control device such as an RFID reader, keypad, remote control, or ticket system.
MOTOR ACTIVATION
Once authorized, the barrier operator’s motor activates, lifting the gate arm to allow vehicle entry or exit.
LED LIGHT INDICATION
During operation, the LED lights change color to indicate the gate’s status:
- Red LED: The gate is closed or lowering – vehicles must stop.
- Green LED: The gate is open or rising – vehicles may proceed.
VEHICLE PASSAGES DETECTION
Loop detectors or sensors verify that a vehicle has passed safely before the gate begins to close.
AUTOMATIC CLOSING
After the vehicle clears the detection zone, the motor lowers the arm, and LEDs return to red, signaling that the gate is closed.
CONTINUOUS SAFETY ALERTS
The illuminated arm provides high visibility even at night or in bad weather, warning drivers and pedestrians of the barrier’s position and motion.
FEATURES
HIGH VISIBILITY LIGHTING
Built-in bright LED strips enhance visibility during day, night, and poor weather conditions, helping drivers easily see the gate arm from a distance.
ENERGY EFFICIENT
LEDs consume very little power compared to traditional lighting, offering long-lasting performance with minimal energy use.
STATUS INDICATION
Dual-color LEDs display operating status — red for “stop” (closed) and green for “go” (open) — improving traffic flow and safety.
DURABLE AND WEATHER-RESISTANT
Made with robust materials like aluminum or fiberglass, LED gate arms are resistant to rain, heat, UV rays, and corrosion.
LONG LIFESPAN
LED lights typically last over 50,000 hours, reducing maintenance frequency and operational downtime.
CUSTOMIZABLE LIGHTING PATTERNS
Some models allow flashing or sequential lighting to increase visibility or match specific operational preferences.
SAFETY ENHANCEMENT
The bright illumination prevents accidents by alerting pedestrians and drivers to the gate’s movement, especially in low-light areas.
INTEGRATION WITH ACCESS DEVICES
Can easily connect to automatic gate operators, RFID systems, or parking management solutions for synchronized operation.
LOW MAINTENANCE
LEDs require minimal upkeep since they don’t burn out easily or need frequent replacement.
