SALTO SPACE
Salto Space is an on-premises access system management software platform developed by SALTO Access Control. It operates on a local network server to manage standalone smart locks, electronic escutcheons, wall readers, and cylinder locks without requiring hardwired cabling to every door.

Data-on-Card (SVN)
Operates on the SALTO Virtual Network (SVN). Encrypted user credentials (RFID key cards, fobs, or mobile keys) carry access rights and write audit trails directly to offline door locks during standard badge presentations.

Centralized Management & Flexibility
Through a standard web browser, operators manage permissions, schedules, calendars, emergency lockdowns, and operator roles with ease. Additionally, the platform supports keycards, fobs, PIN codes, and smartphones via the JustIN Mobile app on a single unified interface. As users navigate the facility, their credentials constantly collect lock usage, door events, and battery level reports, automatically writing this data back to the central server whenever they pass online readers.
Third-Party System Integration
Through robust APIs and high-level protocols, the system seamlessly connects with elevator destination dispatch, CCTV platforms, intruder alarms, time and attendance software, and active directory databases like LDAP.
HOW DOES SALTO SPACE WORK?
Salto Space operates using a hybrid access system architecture centered on the SALTO Virtual Network (SVN). Instead of wiring every single door lock directly to a central server, the platform uses user credentials (RFID cards, key fobs, or smartphones) as physical data carriers to transmit access permissions, audit logs, and battery statuses across the system.
Central Server & Management Software
- Installed on a local network server, the Salto Space software acts as the system database. Security administrators configure user access levels, schedules, time zones, and holiday calendars here.
Online Online Access Points & Updaters
- Hardwired wall readers located at main building entry points (perimeter gates, turnstiles, main lobby doors) maintain a real-time connection to the Salto Space server via IP controllers.
- Every time a user taps their credential at an online reader to enter the building, the reader performs a two-way sync:
– Download: Writes updated permissions, new access rights, or revoked key lists directly to the card’s chip.
– Upload: Reads collected event logs and lock battery statuses off the card and sends them back to the central database.
Offline Standalone Smart Locks
- Battery-powered electronic escutcheons, cylinders, and padlocks mounted on interior doors operate autonomously without network cabling.
- When a card is presented, the offline lock reads the encrypted permissions stored on the chip to allow or deny entry.
- Simultaneously, the lock writes its recent audit trails (who unlocked the door and when) and low-battery alerts directly onto the user’s card.
Wireless Real-Time Connectivity (BLUEnet / IQ Gateways)
- For doors requiring immediate control (e.g., emergency lockdowns or real-time door status monitoring), Salto Space incorporates low-power wireless gateways. Locks communicate over 2.4 GHz wireless signals to gateways connected to the LAN, enabling instant remote unlocking or cancellation without running wires to the lock itself.
HOW IS SALTO SPACE INTEGRATED WITH ELEVATOR DESTINATION DISPATCH?
Integrating Salto Space with an Elevator Destination Dispatch System (DDS)—such as those from TK Elevator, Schindler, Otis, KONE, or Mitsubishi—replaces conventional in-cab floor selection buttons with pre-assignment kiosks and automated floor access permissions.
Rather than requiring users to tap a credential inside the elevator cab, access system authentication occurs at the ground lobby or floor landing terminal before the elevator is called.
System Licensing & Configuration
Destination Dispatch integration requires a specific elevator module license in Salto Space. To activate this feature, navigate to System > General options > Elevators. Next, select whether keypads or touchscreens use native Salto hardware or third-party interfaces.
Destination Entry Terminals (DETs)
Physical touchscreen kiosks or keypads in the lobby act as Destination Entry Terminals. Furthermore, SALTO wall readers or controllers connect directly inside or next to these units.
Credential Presentation & Processing
When a user scans a card, fob, or phone, Salto Space checks configured access groups. Next, the elevator software receives these allowed floors. As a result, the touchscreen displays valid floor choices or automatically sends the lift to the user’s main floor.
Dispatcher Assignment
After authentication, the dispatch system groups passengers traveling to similar floors. Consequently, the screen directs the user to a specific cab, such as Elevator B.
