AKUVOX SMARTPLUS

Akuvox SmartPlus is a cloud-based smart intercom and access control platform designed to connect residential or commercial buildings with their tenants and property managers via a mobile app.

KEY FEATURES FOR USERS

REMOTE VIDEO CALLING

When a visitor presses the intercom at the entrance, you receive a video call on your smartphone. You can see, talk to, and unlock the door for them even if you aren’t home.

VIRTUAL KEYS

You can generate temporary “digital keys” for guests, delivery drivers, or maintenance workers. You can set these to work only once or during specific time windows.

CONTACLESS ENTRY

Using the Akuvox app, you can unlock doors via Bluetooth (by shaking your phone or just being near the door), NFC, or even Facial Recognition if the hardware supports it.

LIVE MONITORING

You can “peek” through any connected door camera at any time to see what’s happening outside your property.

SIRI INTEGRATION

iPhone users can set up voice commands to unlock specific doors hands-free.

BENEFITS FOR PROPERTY MANAGERS

Centralized Management

Manage multiple buildings or sites from one dashboard.

Access Logs

View time-stamped logs and photos of every time a door was opened.

Safety Alerts

Receive instant notifications for alarms, such as “door left open” or “tamper” alerts.

Community Messaging

Send announcements or messages directly to all residents’ apps or indoor monitors.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

To understand how Akuvox SmartPlus works, it helps to look at it as a three-part system: the Akuvox Hardware at your door, the Cloud in the middle, and the App in your hand.

THE PHYSICAL LAYER (HARDWARE)

The Akuvox intercom connects directly to the internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which mirrors the technology found in professional VoIP phone systems. Upon installation, the device receives a unique SIP account that enables it to place internet-based calls similar to a smartphone. This hardware integrates a camera, microphone, and a physical relay—an electronic switch—that controls the door. Consequently, when you tap “Unlock” in your app, the system triggers this relay to release the lock and grant access instantly.

THE COMMUNICATION LAYER (THE CLOUD)

The Akuvox SmartPlus Cloud functions as a digital switchboard by instantly routing visitor requests to the correct residents. When a guest presses the call button, the intercom contacts the Cloud, which identifies the mobile apps linked to that specific unit and rings them all simultaneously. To protect your privacy, the system secures all video and audio streams with TLS/SRTP encryption, ensuring that both your live camera views and your private conversations remain shielded from unauthorized access.

THE USER LAYER (THE MOBILE APP)

The SmartPlus app serves as your comprehensive remote control by managing both incoming calls and secure access credentials. As you approach the entrance, the app utilizes your phone’s Bluetooth or NFC capabilities to share a unique digital signature, prompting the intercom to recognize your device and unlock the door automatically. Furthermore, the system simplifies guest access by allowing you to create temporary QR codes via the Cloud. When a visitor presents this code to the intercom’s camera, the hardware instantly verifies its validity with the Cloud and releases the lock to grant entry.

WHY IS THE AKUVOX SMARTPLUS USE IMPORTANT?

The importance of Akuvox SmartPlus lies in its ability to transform traditional building access into a proactive, data-driven security ecosystem that benefits residents, owners, and property managers alike.

Enhanced Security and Accountability

Unlike traditional “buzz-in” systems, SmartPlus creates a digital audit trail. Every entry event is time-stamped and usually accompanied by a photo or video log of the person entering. This level of accountability detests unauthorized access and provides crucial evidence if a security incident occurs.

Operational Efficiency

For property managers, SmartPlus eliminates the “physical key” headache.

  • Remote Management: Staff can update resident directories, revoke access for moved-out tenants, or reboot devices from a central web portal without visiting the site.
  • Reduced Infrastructure: Because it is cloud-based, it often requires less complex wiring than older analog systems, lowering the initial cost and long-term maintenance of the building.

Modern Resident Experience (Property Value)

In a competitive real estate market, smart amenities act as a significant “curb appeal” factor.

  • Contactless Access: Features like facial recognition and Bluetooth “hands-free” entry are not just convenient; they are often seen as a premium health-conscious standard in modern buildings.
  • Remote Flexibility: Residents can manage deliveries or guest access while at work or on vacation, preventing missed packages and improving overall quality of life.

Scalability and Integration

SmartPlus is designed to grow with the property. It can integrate with elevator control systems (restricting guests to specific floors) or connect with home automation hubs. This creates a unified “Smart Building” environment rather than a series of disconnected gadgets.
